Catholic Charities - New York Avenue Men's Emergency Shelter

New York Avenue Emergency Shelter is an emergency shelter for men over the age of 18. The program offers a hot meal, a shower, a place to stay off of the streets, access to a case manager and a work program to give clients experience in the work environment. We also run a clothing store for free clothing to clients. Shuttle service is offered to several locations in downtown DC. Intake begins at 7 pm each night and the shelter closes at 7 am the next morning.
This shelter serves as a hypothermia shelter during the winter months between October and March when temperatures drop to deadly lows.

Housing

Unity Health Care operates an on-site medical clinic Monday - Friday 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm; 24-hour access to the facility under the Employment Program and Work Detail Program; 7pm-7am access to the emergency shelter.

Shelter open from 7 pm-7 am. Dinner Provided. Bilingual staff. Shelter can be reached by bus. (D1,D3, D4, E2, E3) or by calling the Shelter Hotline vans.
Work program open to men who are working at least 30 hours a week in a job where taxes are being withheld. Residents share a semi-private two-bed room with 24 hour access, Residents must have a bank account and be willing to save 30% of their income. Proof of savings are required by submitting a pay statement and bank balance every pay period. Interested individuals should ask for Nick Lucas at NY Ave.
